Terms & Conditions

1.      Terms of entry

1.1    Entrants must read and abide by these terms and conditions (Terms and Conditions).  The Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

1.2    By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to and accepts the Terms and Conditions, and warrants, represents and undertakes that their entry complies with the Terms and Conditions.

1.3    Any entry found not to comply with the Terms and Conditions will disqualified.

1.4    The joint decision of Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine on all matters relating to the competition is final and binding.

1.5    Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine reserve the right to cancel the competition at any time and for any reason.

2.      How to enter

2.1    The competition is open to staff or students at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, and the entrant must be a UK resident.  Overseas entries will not be accepted.

2.2    Entrants are permitted to submit one entry, and entries must be submitted via email or the online form. 

2.3    Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine cannot be held responsible for entries that do not arrive due to an entrant’s email security settings or restrictions placed by their internet service provider.

2.4    All entries must be submitted by 23:59 on Monday 14th May 2018.  Entries received after this time will not be eligible for inclusion in the competition.

3.      Judging the competition

3.1    Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine shall jointly select a minimum of 8 and no more than 12  entries from the competition to attend the Finals (as defined in paragraph 3.2 below) (Short-listed Entrants) on Tuesday 29th May 2018.

3.2    The Finals for the purpose of this competition shall comprise Short-listed Entrants and their teams delivering short pitches to a panel of judges (including an employee of Imperial Innovations Limited).  The Short-listed Entrants and their teams shall be assessed on the basis of potential impact, ingenuity of solution, and user friendliness (including user interface and user experience).

3.3    The judging panel’s decision shall be final and binding. In the event that the scores for first place are tied, the Imperial Innovations Limited judge shall have the casting vote.

4.      Competition prizes

4.1    Imperial Innovations Limited will provide funding equivalent to £10,000 (Proof of Concept Funding) for the winning entry subject to the following conditions:

 (a)    nomination by the winning entrant of an employee of Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine who is willing to act as a sponsor to permit the transfer of the Proof of Concept Funding to a project account (Sponsor); and

(b)     successful completion of intellectual property due diligence by Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in accordance with Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine’s Intellectual Property Policy which is available at http://www.imperial.ac.uk/research-and-innovation/research-office/ip/ip-policy/.  For example in the event that the intellectual property rights in the computer program was generated in the course of the entrant’s employment, the intellectual property rights belong to Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine or in the event that the intellectual property rights in the computer program was generated in the course of their studies, the winning entrant may be required to assign the intellectual property rights to Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine; and

(c)     the execution of a separate agreement in relation to the Proof of Concept Funding between the winning entrant and Imperial Innovations Limited;

4.2    The winning entrant may elect to reject the Proof of Concept Funding, and in such circumstances Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine will offer the Proof of Concept Funding to the entrant with the next highest score or so long as the offer is accepted.  In the event that no winning entrant accepts the Proof of Concept Funding, Innovations shall be free to dispose of the Proof of Concept Funding.

5.      Liability

5.1    Proof of electronic submission of entries is not treated as proof of receipt by Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine.

5.2    Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine do not accept liability for the misuse of the entries by and/or failure of any third party to comply with the Terms and Conditions.

5.3    Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine do not accept any liability, to the fullest extent permitted by law, for any loss or damage suffered by an entrant in relation to the Competition.

6.      Data protection

6.1    The personal data of entrants will be managed jointly by Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in accordance with the principles of theEuropean Union General Data Protection Regulation.

6.2    Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine will collect personal data about entrants and as otherwise provided in order to administer the competition.

6.3    Entrants may contact Imperial Innovations Limited and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine at any time to update their details.
